Mark Theobald is a character in the series Gielinor. He is a young man who is travelling towards Ardougne.

Character History

Mark was born in Port Sarim and lived there with his parents until they were killed when bandits attacked and robbed them and their shop. Deciding to get away and make it to Ardougne, Mark met Tarqinder who was also going to Ardougne. Mark did not help Tarqinder when he slipped on White Wolf Mountain, feeling unable to pull Tarqinder back up from the ledge he was dangling off of. When a wolf attacked Tarqinder, both itself and Tarqinder fell to the ground. Mark ran to his body and took Tarqinder's sword, money and food claiming that Tarqinder would no longer need it ("Tarqinder's Journey").

After this, Mark continued to Catherby, fighting off a wolf with Tarqinder's sword. Upon reaching Catherby, he realised what he had done, and was overheard speaking his thoughts by a young woman named Samantha. As they spoke, she requested he stay in Catherby, and when Mark said he had to go on she put a sword to his throat. Mark told her he did not care if he killed her, and upon hearing this she commented he would not mind if she did her next action. She then ran towards the dock and reached the end of it where she threw herself into the sea. Mark pursued her, but was too late ("Another Sleepless Night").

Mark then felt incredibly depressed and made his way to Seer's Village where he began to try and drink his problems away at the Forester's Arms. The bartender listened to his story and called him a disgrace to his family and Tarqinder (whom Mark felt a great loss for). Upon hearing this, Mark realised he had to live his life properly and continued his journey to Ardougne. Leaving the bar, a Seer tells him that "he is returning", which refers to Tarqinder who awakens, noticing he has been robbed by Mark ("Another Sleepless Night").

Mark becomes alcoholic again after he finds a wine bottle on his travels north of Ardougne. Tarqinder catches up with him, and after physically assaulting him he takes his sword and his coins back off of Mark who stole them. Tarqinder heads off and threatens Mark that he will kill him should he follow. Mark follows though, and when Tarqinder turns on him angrily Mark says he knows Tarqinder wouldn't kill a person.Mark then explains the reason for his drinking: his regret of leaving Tarqinder to die and having robbed him as well as the responsibility he felt for Samantha's death. Tarqinder lets Mark continue travelling with him as long as he doesn't steal again. As they reach Ardougne Market, they meet Jake who asks Tarqinder if he could kill a dragon for them ("A Tale That Needs To Be Told").
