King Boelryn is a character in Gielinor, and is the current monarch of the Tree Gnome Stronghold following King Narnode Shareen's ill health.

Having first appeared briefly at the end of the third volume, he comes to the forefront as a protagonist in Volume Four: Conflict.

Development

Boelryn was introduced with the purpose of using a monarch other than King Narnode Shareen, so as to protect Shareen and keep the close link between the actual RuneScape universe and the Gieliverse intact.

It was not realized until after the 2009 - 2011 hiatus that Boelryn's name was derived from the present King of the Tree Gnome Village, King Bolren, so their naming similarity was worked into the storyline from "Land of Former Glory". After the hiatus, it was also decided to give Boelryn a more prominent role to play, rather than simply instructing the other gnomic protagonists on what to do.
